Week 5 preview - 9/28/07

Naselle vs. Willapa Valley, 7 p.m. @ NHS

Tonight is a HUGE night for the Naselle Comets. Facing off against the state-ranked Willapa Valley Vikings will be the biggest test they've seen so far. The Comets are a perfect 3-0 going into the game after traveling to Raymond last week and beating up on the Gulls, 28-13.
And while the Raymond win was big, getting a W against Willapa Valley could prove a little tougher. NHS does have the home field advantage, but the Vikings are coming in on a roll. They are 3-1 on the season, having lost their first game to Rochester, 6-7. They have since blown out three teams — @ Ilwaco 28-8, Concrete 41-7 and @ Ocosta 49-0.
The Comets are off to their best start in who knows how long — a very long time — and a win tonight could set them on course that maybe playoff bound. They will be at full strength with the majority if not all their missing players back in action.

Ilwaco @ LaCenter, 7 p.m.

After last week's debacle at Ridgefield (a 56-12 loss), the Ilwaco Fishermen are reeling, and may be lost at sea for the season, especially if they lose tonight at LaCenter. The Fishermen are 1-3 on the season, having lost 3 straight games.
The LaCenter Wildcats come into the game 2-2, but won their last two games in impressive fashion. Despite their .500 record the Wildcats have scord 147 points while only allowing 85 by their opponents. On the flip side, Ilwaco has given up points at a 2-to-1 rate, having scored 53 while giving up 149. If the Fishermen are going to keep up with the Cats they need to find their offense, and fast — Ilwaco is averaging just over 12 points per game while the Cats are averaging almost 38 per game.

Check back Tonight around midnite for photos from the NHS-Valley game and check back Saturday morning for recap blogs from players.

** There was no blog from the IHS game last week due to a travel conflict where injured players were not allowed to travel with the team to Ridgefield. Dan Beirle, the IHS blogger, is currently sidelined with an injury though hopes to be able to play the last few games of his senior year.
