Camp DAYS - Ilwaco readies for season at Camp Rilea

Last Sunday through Thursday, Ilwaco High football coach — and new school athletic director — Kevin McNulty took 32 players to the annual football training camp at Camp Rilea army base in Warrenton. I went on Wednesday morning, the last full day of camp, to get some photos of what it was like. You can view a gallery of those pictures by clicking the above link.

It was pretty interesting to see these students essentially living in the same barracks that the soldiers do. The facility is somewhat antiquated at this point, but the fields behind the barracks worked well for workouts and scrimmages.

The final day consisted of workouts and some scrimmaging for the JV players in the early morning. During this time the varsity crew went to a meeting where they discussed their new screen packages with coach McNulty. Afterward they had a walk through of the new plays before dressing for their first scrimmage with Willapa Valley, a team from the 2B Pacific League. Going up against a team from that league should be something that the Fishermen should get used to, as McNulty has scheduled non-league tilts with both South Bend (week 2) and area rival Naselle (week 3).

The team would later play Lind-Ritzville in a "super scrimmage," tying the Broncos with one score a piece. The Fishermen team in the seven-on-seven passing competition took fourth out of 14 teams. The camp was made up of teams from a variety of schools from throughout the Pacific Northwest region.
