TUMWATER - "Dome for the holidays" sounds about right for Naselle's football team as two amazing things happened Saturday on the Astroturf at Tumwater. First and foremost the Comets vanquished a resilient Valley team 28-24 to earn a first-ever semi-final berth at the Tacoma Dome next Friday at 4 p.m. against Napavine and then Naselle fans were treated to gasoline for less than two bucks a gallon. The win avenged an earlier Naselle loss to previously undefeated Valley 21-6 in league play Oct. 3.
Naselle had punished the Vikes for most of the second half and had fashioned a seemingly insurmountable 28-14 lead with 6:04 remaining thanks to a relentless running attack and a defense that was Glicking (as in assistant coach Clyde Glick) on all eleven cylinders. Then things got whacky.
