This week's match-up's

Tonight, Friday Sept. 7, Ilwaco will host Willapa Valley, while Naselle takes on Evergreen Lutheran.

It wil be a replay of sorts for the second week in a row, as Ilwaco will play the same team they did in week 2 last season, Willapa Valley. Last fall, The Vikings took advantage of five turnovers and a slew of Fishermen penalties to win 10-0. This year the Fishermen will have them at home, in their first game in front of the home fans. The Fishermen took revenge on the team that defeated them in week 1 of last season by beating 2B powerhouse Wahkiakum 21-20 in overtime last week. The Vikings, who went 10-1 last year, lost their season opener last week.

The Comets hope to continue to grow as a team as they shoot for their second straight win of the year as they host Evergreen Lutheran Eagles tonight. Naselle has never played the Eagles, because Evergreen Lutheran has never had a football team — until this season. While the Comets won their season opener last week, 22-14 against Vancouver Christian, the Eagles lost their season opener on the road against Christian Faith High School in Federal Way, 32-10.

“You can’t take anything for granted,” Eagles coach Jeff Kurbis said in the Tacoma News Tribune as camp opened. “You are basically going back to the beginning, starting from what a three-point stance is. To me it’s great. For every coach that has been in it for a while, it’s the fundamentals that get lost. And I can start from the basics because all of them have never done it before.”

Naselle will be playing without their starting quarterback Kyle Burkhalter, who suffered a seperated shoulder last week. He will be replaced under center by his youner brother Austin. But the Comets will have at least some of the nine players that didn't suit up last week (due to injury or ineligibility) back on the field.
